Purnea – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled a slew of development projects worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore in Bihar, marking what he called a “historic day” for the state. Addressing a massive gathering in Purnea, Modi announced that every poor household will be provided a permanent home under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
“Today, over 40,000 families are moving into their own concrete homes. Before Diwali and Chhath, this is a new beginning for their lives. This is Modi’s guarantee – every poor will get a pucca house,” the Prime Minister declared.
Major Infrastructure Push
The event saw the inauguration of the new terminal building at Purnea Airport, built in a record time of less than five months. Modi also flagged off the first commercial flight from the terminal. Alongside, new train services including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat were launched, while the Araria–Galgalia rail line was inaugurated and the Vikramshila–Kataria rail project was laid.
Highlighting the government’s push in the power and irrigation sectors, Modi laid the foundation stone for a 2,400 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur and the Kosi–Mechi intra-state river link project, expected to aid flood control and provide irrigation for lakhs of hectares of farmland.
National Makhana Board Announced
Recognising Bihar’s unique agricultural strength, Modi announced the formation of the National Makhana Board, coupled with a Rs 500 crore plan to benefit farmers. “This initiative will ensure better prices, modern techniques, and rapid development of the makhana sector,” he said.

Attack on Opposition
Targeting the RJD and Congress, Modi accused them of decades of neglect and corruption. “Those who exploited Bihar for decades are now restless seeing its rapid growth. They insult Bihar and raise their voices to protect infiltrators. But let me assure you – infiltrators will have to leave. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he asserted.
Relief Ahead of Festivals
In a major relief measure for the poor and middle class, Modi announced a GST cut on essential commodities starting September 22. “This will reduce kitchen expenses and make it easier for families to buy clothes and footwear for children during the festive season,” he said.
The Prime Minister also highlighted women’s empowerment initiatives, noting how “Lakhpati Didis” and “Drone Didis” are transforming rural economies. On the occasion, community investment funds worth nearly ₹500 crore were disbursed to self-help groups.
As he concluded, Modi led the gathering in chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, reaffirming his government’s commitment to propelling Bihar towards a new era of growth and opportunity.
